Filming Log, stardate 70816.8 The final edit of the film has been completed. The film has been fully colour graded, music inserted and all titles have been put in. I think that this is the best cut of our film and will be used as the final version.

Red Five Filming Log

Filming Log, stardate 70792.3 Due to time constraints, I won't be able to make the 3D titles that were originally planned for the film. For this reason, I will be moving all further editing to Adobe Premiere Pro alone. Previously, all clips that were made in After Effects would have been put into a Premiere Pro project, however now that we don't need the fancy 3D effects, every tool that I need to edit the film is already inside Premiere Pro and therefore After Effects won't be necessary. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as it won't impact on our film and will allow more time to ensure that everything is perfected before the final due date. The titles will be overlayed as simple text titles, which is perfectly fine.

Making the Music

Making the Music For the first part of the film, I wanted to create something that would create an ambiance/atmosphere of tension but nothing too serious. I decided that it would be easier to make this sort of music electronically as it would be better with synthesised instruments and effects. I took a lot of inspiration from the ambient music that plays when flying in Grand Theft Auto V. This music is quite soft but creates a good aura of tension. This is the kind of effect that I was trying to achieve so I took the punchy bass line and the smooth, flowing melody and adapted it to suit our film.  I then used FL Studio 12, Nexus and Sylenth to make the music. I added a drum beat at the end to add to the tension as the tension builds in the music. For the next part of the film, we needed something much more upbeat as the film comes to the tipping point. Filming log, stardate 70737.8 We were able to reshoot the indoor scenes and the camera performed much better in the brighter lighting conditions. The footage turned out much better and we are able to use this footage in the editing process. The camera was able to focus on the characters much easier in the brighter light and there wasn't so much glare coming off the computer monitor.

Red Five Filming Log, stardate 70725.9 At the beginning of the project I originally intended to edit the project in Sony Vegas Pro 12 as it was the software that I was most used to using for more basic projects. However, now that I have used it in practice I have found that it may not be the best way to edit the project. For the titles of our film intro, we wanted the titles to track the motion of certain elements on screen. Vegas Pro 12 has such a capability built in however it doesn't work well. If I were to use it I would be wasting a lot of time on keyframing and we probably would not be able to get the project edited in time. For this reason, I have decided to change the editing suite to Adobe After Effects. I have done this because it has more advanced motion tracking features that allow you to select a point of motion for the object to track. This feature saves me a lot of time. Filming log, stardate 70699.4 We tried filming our first few indoor shots. It was hard to film as we wanted the curtains to be closed to darken the room to give a more secretive atmosphere, however the low light levels meant that the footage didn't come out very well after reviewing it. A lot of the footage looks blocky and because there was so little light in the room and so much light coming off the computer monitor the camera wasn't focusing correctly and the focus kept changing to adjust the light levels, which meant that the characters were almost invisible. We are going to have to reshoot the indoor parts and then keep the curtains open to ensure that the camera performs optimally.

Red Five Filming Log, stardate 70690.6 Due to extenuating circumstances, we were unable to film on the original planned date of 18th March. We have rearranged the dates to 25th and 26th March and we intend to film the whole project over this weekend. The weather forecast predicts that we will have clear skies and sunshine with high enough temperatures so it will be the perfect conditions for filming.

Red Five Risk Assessment

When we are filming Ben's parts outside the Apex server farm, the main risk is for the cameraman. The ground where we are filming is slippy and hard to get a grip on. It's OK for Ben as there is a pile of stones that he can sit on but it can be hard to get steady movement on the camera. To reduce this risk we are going to have to film on a dry day to allow the surface to be as hard as possible to prevent slipping. For filming Noah and Ava's parts, there is a risk of electrical shock and heat due to the lighting. We have to be careful to ensure that the lights are connected properly and to a properly grounded power outlet. As well as electrical shock, we have to be careful about the positioning of the lights because they could heat up and start a fire. They will be placed around and underneath a bed so we have to ensure that they are far enough away from the bed and not in contact with it to reduce any risk. Filming Log, stardate 70663.3 I am making the music for the film. For the first part of the opening, it is ambient electronic music. I didn't want the music to be overpowering but it would have been awkward to have it without music. The inspiration for the music came from the OST for Grand Theft Auto V, which you can listen to here . The music is simple but provides enough of an eerie atmosphere to suit the mood and I think it fits well in our film. For the next part of the film, towards the end when tensions are rising and Ben is being chased, we obviously couldn't keep the same ambient music going, so we needed something more upbeat. I decided to make a cover of the opening song from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, "We are Sex Bob-Omb" . We got the idea for it after Ciaran watched the film as part of his analysis we all liked the music for it. Filming Log, stardate 70655.1 We have the footage for the film pitch and I have begun editing it. I am making a few minor tweaks to the footage, for example cutting out any awkward or silent bits from the film, as well as overlaying the slides from the PowerPoint to make it easier for the viewer to understand what is going on in the pitch. As well as this, I have put in the animatic separately and put music underneath it as we didn't have any during our actual pitch. Furthermore, during the Q&A part of the pitch, I overlaid onto the screen the questions that people were asking in case it doesn't come through clearly on the microphone or it is hard to understand.

Filming Log, stardate 70636 On the 25th February, we attempted to film the first few shots of the film. We managed to get a few of the first shots filmed, however the weather was not optimal. It was a really overcast day, with light rain. The rain gradually got heavier as we filmed. We wanted to have a nice sunny day for filming. We will attempt to re-film these shots as soon as we get the opportunity and the weather is good. We are yet to decide whether we will use these shots in the final production or if we will use the more up-to-date ones, as there is a possibility of continuity issues. Also, during filming we discovered an issue with sound. Because it was a windy day it was hard for the camera mic to pick up my voice, so therefore we have decided to use an audio recording program on my laptop since it is already being used as a prop. Red Fi V e Treatment Three teenagers break into Apex bank to steal millions of pounds... from behind a computer screen. This idea may sound impossible, getting into a millionaire's account and taking their life’s earnings, with a few simple clicks of a mouse. This hacking team, to whom stealing money by the millions is simple, are the lesser known greyhats called Red Five. Meet the team Noah : Played by Aaron Esteban, Noah was born into quite the poor family. They were barely getting by, until they were saved by his father's massive tech company. The Karate Kid - Analysis

Titles The film opens with a title card indicating the rough location and time of the film. The title card reads “Newark, New Jersey September”. Over the remaining of the opening, the production companies names are placed over the opening shots, which eventually resolves to the main title of the film. Over the next few minutes of the film, actor names and other names are overlayed on screen. Music The music starts with an orchestral instrumentation that continues throughout the opening scenes of the film. The music is quite upbeat yet relaxing, with differing dynamics and instrumentation to reflect the camera shot on screen. I would say that the music for this opening challenges the codes of this genre as you would most likely expect something much more rock-styled than orchestral for an action film. Titles The titles of the episode open with the production companies of the series. The titles of the film pause until the end of the opening, when the main title card is displayed on screen. Music The opening music is quite eerie, with simple piano starting and light strings in the background, but as the shot climaxes, the music comes to an abrupt end as the camera cuts to the shot of Elliot on the train. Shots/Mise en scene/Character The episode opens with the main character, Elliot, giving a monologue over the opening credits of the episode. This is followed by a close shot of some business men, believed by Elliot to be “the top 1% of the top 1%, the guys that play God without our permission”. This opening monologue is likely meant to appeal to the rebellious and anarchistic side of the viewer, encouraging them to fight against the establishment and to break the status quo. Titles The first minute or so of the film shows the names of the actors of the film and other important people involved in the films creation. The titles are all a simple blue text with a black background. The titles then fade out to the opening shot of the film. Music Throughout the opening of the film there is an orchestral instrumentation. It is very light yet almost eerie, and shifts between major and minor keys. There is a spike in tension once the men arrive to search for E.T.. Shots/mise en scene/characters The film opens with a wide shot of the night sky, and it slowly pans down. As it pans down, the sky fades from pitch black to a lighter shade of blue. As the camera stops panning down, we get a shot of what appears to be a thick forest. Ferris Bueller's Day Off Analysis

Titles The film opens with the names of the production company and the director, followed by the main actor of the film. The title of the film. The titles are all a basic blue font in uppercase lettering. Music There is no music playing during a large part of the opening, however at about 2:40 an orchestral instrumentation begins playing. The music is slow and happy. However after Ferris’ parents leave the house the music becomes much louder and heavier. Later on during the scene when Ferris is talking to Cameron on the phone, there is a change in music. While the camera is on Cameron, the music is slow and weighted, whereas when the camera is on Ferris, the music is happy and uplifting, almost Hawaiian style. Titles The film opens with the Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures splash art. It then cuts to presumably a computer screen with arbitrary symbols displayed. Out of these symbols, the title of the film, “THE MATRIX”, is shown on screen. Music The film opens with little to no music, almost inaudible at the start, however as the film progresses the music becomes more audible. We can tell that it is an epic orchestral instrumentation. It then cuts out as the main action of the opening begins. Throughout the rest of the opening there are various instrumental intermissions to emphasise certain actions, such as police breaking down a door.
